If you previously purchase the PDF version of "Basics" that relied on Adobe Digital Editions, you might find that you no longer have access to the book. The company we formerly used to distribute that version is no longer in business, which means that many legally purchased copies no longer are accessible. If this applies to you, let us know and we will provide you with a copy of the updated "Basics of Voice Science and Pedagogy" at no cost, pending verification of your original purchase.
Resonance in Singing now is published with a flash drive that includes VoceVista voice analysis software and sample files to demonstrate concepts in the book, while helping you become an expert with the program. Please rememober that VoceVista Pro -- the version included -- requires Windows to run. It will run on a Mac if Parallels or Boot Camp is installed, but there is no version of VVP that is native to OSx.
There is a new version of VoceVista, called VoceVistaVideo, which does have native ability in both OSx and Windows. That version, however, does not yet have an analysis routine for the electroglottograph (EGG). Dr. Miller was working on a new eiditon of Resonance in Singing that was compatible with the new VoceVista, including new example files, but his death in April 2020 almost certainly will cause delays. Please return here periodically to receive updates.
Inside View Press released an updated version 1.3 of the "Your Voice" software in December, 2014. Unfornutately, some of these disks contain a program error that results in an error message indicating that certain files cannot be found. You can manually locate the missing files in the "MacSupport" folder located on the Your Voice DVD. The simpler solution (until we are able to resolve the programming glitch) is to copy the program and run it directly from your computer's hard drive. Follow these steps to install and run the program in this manner. (note: this only applies to Yosemite)
OS-X 10.9 (Mavericks) is not compatible with versions 1.0 and 1.1 of the Your Voice: An Inside View computer program. We have created a new version (1.2) that is fully operational in Mavericks. These new DVDs began shipping on 12/21/13 and are included with all puchases made after that date. If you previously purchased a copy of the book and/or software that no longer works because you upgraded your Mac to Mavericks, please visit our order page for information on a free replacement/upgrade disk.We apologize for this issue, which was caused by Apple, not Inside View Press. Versions 1.0 and 1.1 of the program will continue to function correctly under OS-X versions 10.8 and earlier, and Windows XP through 8. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Several typographical errors and misprints appeared in the first printing of this text (this applies only to copies purchased prior to January 1, 2013). A list of these items with the corrected versions is found here.
What to do if you can't view the bottom of text windows
Some people have reported problems viewing the bottom of text windows that are controlled by scroll bars in both Mac and Windows. If you experience this issue, it is not because of a defective disk. In most cases, the solution is simple: increase your screen resolution to exceed 800 pixels for the vertical dimension (access this through the "settings" function in Mac, or by right-clicking the desktop in Windows and selecting "screen resolution." On some systems, especially those with lower resolution or smaller displays, the maximum vertical resolution is only800 pixels. If this is the case and your "dock" (Mac) or "quick launch" (Windows) bar is at the bottom or top of the display, you still might not have access to 100% of the Inside View program window. We will be introducing a smaller window option by January 1, 2013, with free exchange for current users. In the meanwhile, your solution is to move the dock or quick launch bar to the side of your display, which enables you to view all of the Inside View content.
There are no other known issues or problems with Inside View or Resonance disks published after 2009. You can verify the production date of your disk by the program build number, which is printed below the version number on the CD-ROM. For example, PB082411 indicates the disk was mastered on July 24, 2011. On rare occasions, a disk is damaged during shipping, rendering it unreadable. If this happens, contact our technical support department immediately or by calling 609.462.2271, 9:00a-9:00p, Eastern time zone.
If there is no visible damage to your disk, please verify that the appropriate version of QuickTime is installed on your computer prior to contacting us. If you have a version of a program that is designed to be installed to your computer's hard drive, you must follow the instructions precisely, including accepting the default drive and folder where the program resides. If your program still malfunctions, contact us by e-mail or phone as previously indicated.
Software version 2.1 of Inside View was released on August 25, 2011, which is fully compatible with OS-X Lion. Inside View Press will exhange any disks prior to this new version, purchased after January 1, 2011, at no charge upon request with exchange. Send your original disk and proof of purchase to:
Inside View Press
285 Home Road
Delaware, OH 43015
Versions 2.0 and earlier are fully Windows compatible and will work correctly with all versions of Mac OS-X except Lion. Upgrade disks for materials purchased prior to January 1, 2011, can be ordered here.
Special Notice, January 9, 2009
A small batch of disks bearing the ID numbers PB010109, PB010109-1, and PB010109-2 (Academic Edition), and PB010109-1 (Full Version) were delivered to Inside View Press with a defect that causes some videos not to function. To test for this problem, open Inside View, and then click on the button to go to Chapter 4: the affected disks will display a popup window that says where is "C:\Academic Edition\support\bad_di.mpg"?. This problem only impacts the Windows version of Inside View--the Mac version runs correctly.
Replacments for defective disks were shipped on January 12, 2009 to everyone who purchased books directly from Inside View Press. Replacements have also been sent to all college bookstores that carry this title and received defective disks:
University of Houston Bookstore (Barnes & Noble)
University Bookstore, Texas State University San Marcos
Colloquium Bookstore, Texas State University San Marcos
University BOokstore, University of Utah
Florence O Wilson Bookstore, College of Wooster
If you purchased a copy of Inside View from one of these stores, please return to the store to obtain your free replacement disk. If the store is unable to assist you, please notify us by e-mail -- include your name, shipping address, name of your school, and name of the bookstore from which you made the purchase. We will send a replacment upon receipt of this information.
In the meanwhile, there is a relatively simple "work around" you can do to make the program function normally:
Acadmic Edition (runs from CD-ROM only)
Full Version (installs to hard drive or runs from CD-ROM)
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this error has caused.

Your Voice: An Inside View and Resonance in Singing will run correctly on the vast majority of PC computers built since 2000. In the isolated circumstances in which problems occur, the cause will generally fall into one of these categories:
If you are unable to correct your technical issues by any of the methods described below, please contact Inside View Press technical support directly for assistance.
Previous compatibility issues between 64-bit Windows and QuickTime have now been resolved. If you are running a 64-bit OS and experience problems viewing the video components of computer programs from Inside View Press, a free upgrade to the latest version of QuickTime should restore complete functionality and access.
Multimedia portions of the program will only work correctly if the program is installed to the default drive and directory specified by the Setup program (C:\In_View). If you changed either the directory name or the drive to which the program is installed (such as a network drive or a secondary hard drive in a computer with multiple hard drives), audio and video portions of the program cannot be displayed. To correct this problem, first run the uninstall program (start / all programs / Your Voice / Uninstall Your Voice), and then reinstall the program to the default destination drive and directory.
This version of the Inside View program was designed to run directly from the CD-ROM, which must be designated as drive D:\ by your computer system (restriction to the D:\ drive was eliminated for disks shipped after February 1, 2005). The vast majority of PCs that have a single hard drive designate D:\ as the optical (CD or DVD) drive. If you are unsure as to the letter designation of your optical drive, click start / my computer / and look for drives under the heading devices with removable storage: your optical drive will be included on this list, along with a letter designation (usually D:\, but possibly something else).
Computers with multiple hard drives—or a single drive with multiple partitions—sometimes reserve D:\ as the designation for a secondary local hard disk and identify the optical drive by another letter name. In these cases, Your Voice: An Inside View will appear to run normally, but multimedia files (audio and video) will not function. To correct this problem, you must copy the multimedia support files to the D:\ drive on your computer as follows:
Multimedia content in Your Voice: An Inside View requires QuickTime 7.5 (or later) to be installed and correctly configured on your computer. On rare occasions, people who have installed the current version of QuickTime are still unable to access the audio portions of Chapter 1. This problem is typically solved by modifying the QuickTime configuration. Presuming the correct version of QuickTime is already installed, open a QuickTime window (start / all programs / QuickTime / QuickTime Player), and then click on Edit and select Preferences and then QuickTime Preferences. Select the option File Type Associations from the drop down menu and then click on the File Types button. Click the check box next to the heading Audio - Audio only file formats and then make sure wave audio file is checked. Next, click MPEG - MPEG system, video, and audio files and verify that MPEG media file and MPEG-4 media file are both selected. Finally, click MP3 - MPEG layer III movies and streams and verify that MP3 audio file is selected. When you have verified all these aspects, click on OK and then exit the QuickTime Settings window.
Your Voice: An Inside View is only guaranteed to run correctly on computers using Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, XP, NT or 2000. Systems that are still running Windows Me or 98 might be sufficiently robust to display the program, but are likely to encounter significant delays and overall poor performance. Some multimedia components might not function even if the remainder of the disk operates correctly. The program will not run under Windows 95.
Error message: Choose a File / Where is "Chapter 3.dir"?
Disks bearing the lot number PB110207 (found at the bottom center of the disk, under the heading "Version 1.2") were compiled without a file that is required to view the "Quick Reference" version of Chapter 3. This flaw only applies to the OS-X version of the program on the hybrid disk—the Windows version runs correctly. In OS-X, the examples from this chapter can still be viewed using the funcion "Examples Keyed to Printed Text" from the main program screen. If you purhased one of these disks and have not yet requested a replacement, you may do so by sending an e-mail to our technical support department.
